Dr. Gabor Maté has said, “Trauma is not what happens to you. Trauma is what happens inside you, as a result of what happens to you.”
Many of the things people consider to be abnormal in society such as chronic illness, the mental health crisis, addiction and abuse are really just normal responses to a culture that drives its people into dysfunction and suffering.
Dr. Maté gives us a new vision: a trauma-informed society in which parents, teachers, physicians, policy-makers and legal personnel are not concerned with fixing behaviors, making diagnoses, suppressing symptoms and judging, but seek instead to understand the sources from which troubling behaviors and diseases spring in the wounded human soul.
We invite you to watch The Wisdom of Trauma movie and join the filmmakers and founders of Science and Nonduality (SAND) as they follow Dr. Gabor Maté to explore the connection between illness, addiction, trauma and society.
The Wisdom of Trauma, presented in partnership with A Place for You, Empower Recovery, Pine Tech and Community College, and the University of Minnesota Extension. This powerful film explores the effects of trauma and the journey toward healing.
