MN Department of Human Services Community Behavioral Health Hospitals
Our network of Community Behavioral Health Hospitals (CBHHs) provides inpatient behavioral health care for adults in six communities throughout the state.
The 16-bed hospitals provide an array of acute, short-term hospitalization services, including:
- Assessment of mental, social, functional, and physical health
- An individual treatment plan that includes medication management and 24-hour nursing care
- Multidisciplinary teams that include psychiatrists, general practice physicians, psychiatric nurses, psychologists, clinical social workers, addiction counselors and occupational therapists.
- Illness management and recovery
- Individualized discharge, care coordination and aftercare planning for transition back to an appropriate setting in the community
The CBHHs are locked facilities. On average, patients stay in the hospital about 60 days before discharge.
Admission
Admission to a CBHH is by referral only. Most referrals are provided by county social service agencies, courts, community hospitals and mental health providers. Patients can be admitted to a CBHH from anywhere in Minnesota. Most patients have been civilly committed by a court.
Referrals are screened by DCT's Central Pre-Admissions Office and must meet admission criteria.
