Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based psychotherapy approach designed to treat post-traumatic stress and related emotional and behavioral difficulties in children and adolescents. Thanks to a grant from the Minnesota Department of Human Services, these trainings are offered at no cost to qualified participants.
Mental health professionals will gain a comprehensive understanding of TF-CBT and its application in therapy through basic and advanced training sessions led by experienced trainers. Register for the training at this website.
Two training cohorts are available for Fall 2026:
Mankato Cohort Basic Training Sept. 28 and 29, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. In person in Mankato, MN (exact location pending)
Advanced Training Oct. 23 and 26, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Virtual via Zoom
Aurora Cohort Basic Training Nov. 13 and 16, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Virtual via Zoom
Advanced Training Dec. 11 and 14, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Virtual via Zoom
Prerequisite TF-CBTWeb is an online prerequisite for attending this training. Participants accepted into the training will need to complete the 10-hour prerequisite course, which costs $35.
Participant Criteria
Participants should meet the following criteria:
- Be licensed or license-eligible mental health therapists
- Be interested in becoming certified TF-CBT providers
- Have agency support for TF-CBT materials, training time and referrals
- Have access to an active caseload of children and adolescents ages 3-18 who have experienced trauma and have an engaged caregiver/support person
- Be able to treat at least 2-4 TF-CBT cases following training
Space is limited, and participants will be selected based on their application.
